According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Swedish film and music director Jonas Åkerlund will direct an upcoming biopic about the controversial punk rocker GG Allin. Titled “GG Allin: Live. Fast. Die.”the film will be produced Angry Films‘ Don Murphy a Susan MonEord (“Natural Born Killers”, “Transformers”, “Real Steel”) along with Eric D. Wilkinson (Jerome Bixby “The Man From Earth”, “Overrun”) according to the screenplay Richard Schenkman (“Man from Earth: Holocene”, “Pompatus of Love”).
born Kevin Michael Allin on August 29, 1956 GG Allin was arrested numerous times during his 15-year career for his wild stage antics. He often performed naked and his regular stage antics included attacking the audience and band members, defecating, urinating, throwing feces into the audience and self-mutilation. GG throughout his career he promised to commit suicide on stage on Halloween. He postponed it many times during his career and died of a heroin overdose on June 28, 1993.
According to the manufacturers, “Live. Fast. Die.” is a true story “about what happens to a borderline personality when the reach for fame exceeds the limits of talent… when substance abuse goes unchecked and mental illness goes undiagnosed and untreated… and when a fictional character takes over the life of a real person, he drives GG beyond the limits that anyone could endure.”
Åkerlund said in a statement: “This is exactly the kind of real and raw story I’m looking for, and this film explores the ugly belly of the beast and how Kevin Allen arose GG. Punk was already a genre about pushing boundaries, expanding musical genres and defining artistic expression. At a time when punk was considered dead, sold out, or too raw to survive, GG he came onto the scene bleeding, pissing and sinking like no punk before. “Live. Quickly. Die.” it is about a sick person who should have asked for help. GGHis strong personality was a gift, but this borderline personality disorder went untreated and killed him.”
Schenkman added: “The GG Allin the story is about so many things, which is why I was forced to spend almost a year researching and writing it. I interviewed extensively with people who knew GG best: his brother Merle Allin, his bandmates, his road dog best friend and his mother (now deceased). I read hundreds of articles about him, transcripts of arrests and trials, even his unpublished memoirs. I watched hours of videos and endured track after track of his attack music. I wanted everything in this movie to be accurate and true. And that is.”
Åkerlund is the original drummer BATHORYone of the first black metal bands that became famous for directing music videos for artists from Madonna a ROLLING STONES to MAROON 5 a Beyoncé. These earned him numerous awards, including several Grammyan MTV VMAs, MVPA Hall of Fame award and more. Åkerlund he has also directed several feature films, including a 2019 English-language film “Lords Of Chaos”based on true events in the Norwegian black metal music scene in the early 1990s.
