Daniel Craig spoke about the recent confirmation that his Glass onion the character is gay and says “that’s normal. But we don’t make a song and dance out of it”.
The actor will reprise his role as lead detective Benoit Blanc in the film Knives Out the sequel, which opened in theaters in November and will arrive on Netflix later this month.
Blanc’s sexuality has been the subject of much speculation given that the film contains a specific scene that suggests Blanc is living with a man. Director Rian Johnson has since confirmed that the character is queer.
He talks about revealing his character’s sexuality in a new interview with The Sunday TimesCraig said that when making movies, “you’re supposed to reflect life. And that [gay] the relationship reflects my life.”
The 54-year-old added: “It’s normal. But we don’t want to make a song and dance out of it. It’s just right.”
It’s unclear whether Craig was referring to his personal relationships or the broader need to portray diverse sexualities on screen.
The Independent contacted a representative of Craig’s for further comment.
Johnson said: “It just made sense to Daniel and me [for Blanc to be queer]. We didn’t want to be coy or cute. We just wanted it to be the reality of the character.”
The James Bond star has previously said he doesn’t want viewers to get “politically hung up” on Blanco’s sexuality.
Last year, the actor spoke about his own sexuality during an appearance at Bruce Bozzi’s restaurant Lunch with Bruce podcast.

In it, Craig addressed reports that he and Bozzi were seen kissing at a gay bar called Roosterfish in Venice Beach, California in 2010.
“For me, it was one of those situations and, and the irony is, you know we kind of got caught, I guess it was kind of weird because we weren’t doing anything fucking wrong,” Craig told Bozzi.
“What happened was we had a nice night and I was talking to you a little bit about my life, when my life changed, we got drunk and I was like, ‘Oh, let’s go to the bar, let’s go, let’s ***ing to go out.” And I just said, I’m not giving it and we’re in Venice [California].”
Craig went on to say that he has been going to gay bars “for as long as I can remember”.
“One of the reasons is because I don’t fight in gay bars that often… because the aggressive d***s swinging in straight bars really sickened me. [it].”
He said gay bars were a safe place and that “you didn’t really have to show your sexuality”.
“And I could meet girls there,” he added. “Because there are a lot of girls there for the exact same reason I was there. It was kind of an ulterior motive.”
Craig has been married to actor Rachel Weisz for 11 years. The couple tied the knot in June 2011.
Glass onion has a cast including Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Dave Bautista, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr, Jessica Henwick and Kate Hudson.
In the film, Blanc travels to Greece after being invited to a mysterious murder organized by a controversial tech billionaire.
It will be released on Netflix on December 23rd.
