NEW YEAR’S Eve celebrations made a big comeback in 2023 as crowds celebrated from New York to Miami.
Hundreds of thousands of people braved the rain in New York City to watch the iconic ball descend on Times Square.
In Miami, Miley Cyrus threw a party and performed her hit song Midnight Rain with Fletcher, which many are calling “the best performance of the night.”
Fans began to marvel at the two pop stars’ duet, with one viewer writing on Twitter: “Put this Fletcher/Miley duet in a bottle so I can drink it.”
Miley has also performed with Sia, Paris Hilton and her godmother/co-host Dolly Parton. Dolly and Miley opened with covers of I Love Rock & Roll in matching cheetah outfits.
In New York, fans were furious over CNN’s alcohol ban for hosts, with many pleading on social media: “Let them drink!”
Andy Cohen, 54, along with his co-host Anderson Cooper admitted: “We can’t drink,” adding “but that’s okay.”

The tradition of prom in Times Square
The New Year’s Eve celebration first gathered in Times Square in 1904, but it wasn’t until 1907 that the New Year’s Eve Ball was first launched from the top of Times Square.
The ball has seven variations, which were created as a harbinger of the new year.
With the exception of 1942 and 1943, when the ceremony was postponed due to the “blackout” of the lights in New York during the war, the ball has been omitted every year since 1907.
Still, people continued to gather in Times Square to ring in the New Year with a moment of silence and the ringing of bells from sound cars parked at the base of the tower.
