Wall Park – The Gedkstätte Berliner Mauer (Berlin Wall Memorial) commemorates the division of Berlin by the Berlin Wall and the deaths that took place there. This monument was created in 1998 by the Federal Republic of Germany and the Federal State of Berlin. Located on Bernauer Straße at the corner of Ackerstraße, it includes the Chapel of Reconciliation, the Berlin Wall Documentation Center, a 60-metre (200 ft) section of the former border, a memorial window and a visitor center.
The idea of the memorial was proposed by the Deutsches Historisches Museum (German Historical Museum) for the federal government in Berlin and the architects Kohlhoff & Kohlhoff were commissioned to design it. The cost of the competition and completion was 2.2 million Maries. The federal government pays the construction costs, while the states pay the maintenance costs.
On September 11, 2008, the Berlin House of Representatives approved the opening of a memorial on the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The extension will be completed in 2013. Remnants of the original border should be displayed, and the missing part marked with iron on the ground. The monument will be divided into four areas:
There is a visitor center at the corner of Gartstraße and Bernauer Straße. The exterior of the memorial, west of Berlin’s Nordbahnhof, has been transformed into a Erinnerungslandschaft (commemorative landscape).
The memorial includes a 60 meter (200 ft) long section of the wall as it was when the wall fell.
From the west, the wall consists of an L-element flanked by a sandy section, lit by “Kolonnweg”, fce signal and inner wall. Finally, a tower was built inside the complex. The area is not accessible to visitors;

The north wall bears the inscription “In Erinnerung an die Teilung der Stadt vom 13. August 1961 bis zum 9. November 1989 und zum Gedk an die Opfer kommunistischer Gewaltherrschaft” (“In memory of the division of the city from August 13, 1989 to 1989.”). November and victims of communist oppression”).
The documentation center is located on the other side of Bernauer Straße. It contains seminar rooms and exhibitions. The building has a five-story observation tower.
The Chapel of Reconciliation was designed by architects Peter Roth and Rudolph Sass as a church and has an oval shape with a facade of tree branches. The chapel includes prayer rooms and materials from the former Versöhnungskirche (Reconciliation Church), which stood on the site until it was destroyed in 1985 because it was located in the border zone.
